Canesten 1% cream is used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. Canesten cream relives the symptoms of itching and irritation caused by fungal infections by tackling the cause of these infections. The active substance in Canesten Antifungal Cream is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called azoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of fungal infections.

If your doctor has prescribed Canesten cream to you follow the instructions they have given you, if you have bought this product without a prescription follow the steps below:

  • Wash your hands before and after applying the cream.
  • If using on your feet, ensure these are washed and dried before the cream is applied.
  • Apply the cream thinly to affected areas 2 or 3 times a day and rub in gently.
  • Generally, a minimum of two weeks treatment is necessary for thrush although up to four weeks may be necessary for other conditions. Even if your symptoms have started to clear up, you should complete the full course of treatment to ensure that the infection has been fully treated.
  • If symptoms persist consult your doctor.

Ingredients: The active substance is clotrimazole 200mg (1% w/w). The other ingredients are benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, Cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol and purified water.

What else to know:

Canesten Cream is for external use only. Do not use Canesten Cream:

  • If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients, including cetostearyl alcohol, of Canesten Cream.
  • To treat nail or scalp infections.

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying for a baby, talk to your doctor or midwife before using Canesten Cream.
